The Process of Sanding Hardwood Floors

sanding hardwood floors

Sanding hardwood floors is one of the processes to refinish hardwood floors. To do this, there are actually several steps you need to follow. The first important step is initial sanding. Firstly, you have to make sure that the hardwood floors in your house are capable and ready for sanding. After that, you also need to check that there aren’t any staples or nails on the hardwood floors. If there any, you should take them out because these materials can tear the sandpaper on the sanding machine. Next, rent or buy a drum sander to blow out dust in the sanding machine before you use it.

After that, install sandpaper to the sanding machine. The layer thickness depends on the floor condition. If there are not any serious damages, you can just use thinner layer for this. Now, you can start sanding from the slightest angle to the grain. You can move at 7 to 15 degrees to the direction of the boards. When doing this, you can move constantly, so all the area is sanded at the same angle. When most of the floor is already sanded, finish the sanding process at the shorter side of the room and the initial sanding hardwood floors is done.
